Mongeham Friendship Group

A warm welcome to everyone - just drop in and have a coffee/tea - we are a fun loving friendship group - either just sharing each others’ company or taking part in crafts and maybe learning new skills in crafts - there is always a readiness to teach each other craft skills. We meet every Tuesday morning from 9.30am to 12 noon and welcome new members - so don’t be shy!

For those interested in crafts, there is the opportunity to make quilts or make or knit garments/blankets in support of the Christian charity "Hope Now International", whose leaders and volunteers work alongside the Ukrainian people.

A donation of £420 was given to the local fundraisers of the charity “Send a Cow” on 12 March, 2019 following our collection from schrapnel coins.

“In Africa, the charity focuses on training; ensuring families have the skills they need to grow food and earn an income.  Where necessary, locally bought seeds, tools and livestock are provided to support them on their journey out of poverty.

Send a Cow works with farmers in groups recognising and developing skills of individuals for the overall benefit and support of the whole community to attain self sufficiency in their lives”

News at the end of June, 2019

This month we will be presenting a donation of £400 to representatives from the Thanet Womens Refuge Centre when we will be brought up to date with the work being carried out in our county. A total of £150 was raised from our weekly scrapnel collection and a further £250 from a recent fundraising event organised by our supporter, Linda Richards. Special thanks to Linda and all involved.

Future scrapnel collections will be in aid of The Leprosy Mission - more information to follow -www.leprosymission.org.uk

A collection of quilts and garments were delivered this month to Hope Now along with a donation of £150 for the Mission Fund. Transport of goods to the Ukraine is now at £30 per box and any donations to help with these costs are gratefully received. – See newsletter link on www.hopenow.org.uk

We extend a warm invitation to drop in to our Friendship Group on a Tuesday morning – no age limit – just a welcome smile – plenty of laughter and fun! If you would like to join in craft activities there are plenty of opportunities to take up new and old skills – always someone on hand to help.

The Art Café

Every Wednesday from 10.15am-12.15pm The Art Café meets. We bring our own mediums (e.g. pastels, oil, water colour etc.) and/or craft materials, sharing any experience that we have together.

This is a very friendly group where all are made welcome and encouraged to have a go.

There is a 50p charge for tea/coffee and biscuits.
